Description

Bang Bang Shrimp features crispy fried shrimp coated in a creamy, spicy sauce, perfect for parties or casual dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined, tails removed)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 3/4 cup corn starch
  • 1/4 cup high-quality mayonnaise
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1-2 teaspoons Sriracha hot sauce (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the shrimp with buttermilk, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Let this marinate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, add the cornstarch to a shallow dish or bowl.
  3. Remove each shrimp from the marinade, shaking off any excess, and dredge in the corn starch. Place them on a baking sheet as you continue the process.
  4. In a large pot, heat about 1 ½ inches of oil to 350°F. Fry the shrimp in three batches, cooking each for about 2 minutes or until golden brown. The shrimp should reach an internal temperature of 145°F. Transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  5. In a separate large bowl, combine mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, and Sriracha. Toss in the fried shrimp until they are evenly coated. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For a healthier twist, you can also bake the shrimp instead of frying them.
