Description
A hands-off, family-friendly casserole that combines seasoned ground beef, mustard, and sharp cheddar tucked between layers of frozen fries for an indulgent weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (85–90% lean)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cups frozen French fries
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cheddar cheese soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook until browned, about 6–8 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper. Drain any excess fat.
- In a large bowl, combine the beef, onions, cheddar cheese soup, milk, and mustard. Stir until smooth.
- Layer half of the frozen fries in the casserole dish. Spread the beef mixture over the fries, then top with remaining fries.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the fries are cooked and cheese is bubbly. Broil for 1–2 minutes for a browned top.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey and use a homemade cheese sauce instead of condensed soup.
