Description

A hands-off, family-friendly casserole that combines seasoned ground beef, mustard, and sharp cheddar tucked between layers of frozen fries for an indulgent weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85–90% lean)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cups frozen French fries
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook until browned, about 6–8 minutes.
  3. Season with salt and pepper. Drain any excess fat.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the beef, onions, cheddar cheese soup, milk, and mustard. Stir until smooth.
  5. Layer half of the frozen fries in the casserole dish. Spread the beef mixture over the fries, then top with remaining fries.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the fries are cooked and cheese is bubbly. Broil for 1–2 minutes for a browned top.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey and use a homemade cheese sauce instead of condensed soup.
