A comforting Shepherd’s Pie Casserole with seasoned ground beef, savory vegetables, and creamy mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 3 cups mashed potatoes (prepared ahead)
- 2 tbsp butter, cut into small pats
- 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, sautéing until soft and aromatic.
- Stir in the tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and mixed vegetables. Simmer for about 5–7 minutes until thickened.
- Transfer the filling to a casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
- Scoop the prepared mashed potatoes on top, smoothing them out, and dot with butter and cheese if desired.
- Bake for 20–30 minutes until the top is golden and filling is bubbling.
- Allow to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use homemade mashed potatoes for the best texture; store-bought works in a pinch. Consider fresh herbs for added flavor.
