Description

A delightful dish that combines crispy fried shrimp with a sweet and spicy hot honey sauce, perfect for gatherings or weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Make the Hot Honey Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine honey, hot sauce, butter, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Heat over medium until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  3. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Prepare the Egg Wash: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs with the milk until well combined.
  5. Heat the Oil: In a deep pan or frying pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Coat the Shrimp: Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, shake off the excess, dip them in the egg wash, then back into the flour mixture to ensure a good coating.
  7. Fry the Shrimp: Carefully place a few shrimp in the hot oil without overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. Toss in Hot Honey Sauce: Once all shrimp are fried, gently toss them in the prepared hot honey sauce until each piece is well coated.

Notes

For a milder version, adjust the amount of cayenne and hot sauce to your taste. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 2-3 days.
