Description
Crispy, cheesy, and tangy, these In-N-Out imitation Animal Style fries hit every craving without a drive-thru run. Topped with melted cheddar, caramelized onions, and a creamy special sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 bag frozen French fries (20–32 oz)
- 1 to 1½ cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1 medium yellow or sweet onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- Optional: salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Optional: a little oil or butter for onions
Instructions
- Preheat your oven according to the frozen fries package instructions, ideally to about 425°F (220°C).
- Bake the fries in a single layer until golden and very crisp.
- While the fries are baking, heat a skillet over medium, add oil or butter, and then add the sliced onions. Cook until golden and soft.
- Whisk together ketchup, mayonnaise, sweet relish, and mustard in a bowl to make the special sauce.
- Transfer hot fries to a serving plate, sprinkle cheddar over the fries, and melt it using broiler if necessary.
- Scatter onions over the cheese and drizzle the special sauce generously.
- Serve immediately for best texture.
Notes
For a lighter onion flavor, soak slices in cold water for 10 minutes before cooking. Leftovers keep best if stored separately.
