Description
This oven-baked BBQ chicken is a tender, juicy dish coated with a sweet-savory glaze, perfect for busy weeknights and versatile leftovers.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5–2 lbs / 700–900 g total)
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Optional flavor boosters:
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Pinch smoked paprika or chili powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking dish or line it with foil for easier cleanup.
- Pat the chicken dry with paper towels, rub with olive oil, and season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
- Arrange the breasts in a single layer in the dish. Pour 1 cup of BBQ sauce over them and spread lightly.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, checking thinner breasts at 20–22 minutes until the internal temperature reads 165°F (75°C).
- Brush reserved sauce on and return to the oven for an additional 2–3 minutes to set the glaze.
- Remove the chicken and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing or serving.
Notes
Serve with sides like roasted vegetables or on tortillas for a casual meal. Store cooled chicken in airtight containers for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
