Description

A tender and flavorful dish made with chicken and a sweet-savory honey garlic sauce, effortlessly prepared in a slow cooker.


Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)


Instructions

  1. Lightly season the chicken on both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, ketchup, minced garlic, ginger (if using), vinegar, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Place the seasoned chicken in the slow cooker, ensuring each piece is well-coated in the sauce.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
  5. (Optional) For a thicker sauce, transfer the sauce from the slow cooker to a saucepan. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then stir it into the sauce. Simmer over medium heat until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Return the chicken to the slow cooker or pour the thickened sauce over it.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

For maximum flavor, marinate the chicken overnight in the sauce before cooking. This dish can also be adapted for stovetop or oven cooking.
