A delightful sourdough bread recipe that transforms simple ingredients into a crusty loaf with incredible flavor.
Ingredients
- 4 cups (500g) of bread flour or all-purpose flour
- 1⅔ cups (375g) of warm water
- 1 cup (200g) of active sourdough starter
- 2 teaspoons (10g) of salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of flour with 1⅔ cups of warm water. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
- Mix in 1 cup of your active sourdough starter and 2 teaspoons of salt.
- Cover the bowl and allow the dough to sit at room temperature for 2 hours, performing stretch and folds every 30 minutes.
- Let the dough rise for 6 to 8 hours.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it seam-side up in a proofing basket. Refrigerate for 8 to 12 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) with a Dutch oven inside.
- Score the top of the dough and lower it into the hot Dutch oven using parchment paper.
- Cover and bake for 20 minutes, then remove the lid and bake uncovered for another 25 minutes.
- Allow the bread to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Ensure your sourdough starter is active and bubbly for the best results. Store bread at room temperature in a paper bag for up to 3 days.
