Description

A delightful sourdough bread recipe that transforms simple ingredients into a crusty loaf with incredible flavor.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (500g) of bread flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1⅔ cups (375g) of warm water
  • 1 cup (200g) of active sourdough starter
  • 2 teaspoons (10g) of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of flour with 1⅔ cups of warm water. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Mix in 1 cup of your active sourdough starter and 2 teaspoons of salt.
  4. Cover the bowl and allow the dough to sit at room temperature for 2 hours, performing stretch and folds every 30 minutes.
  5. Let the dough rise for 6 to 8 hours.
  6. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it seam-side up in a proofing basket. Refrigerate for 8 to 12 hours.
  7. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) with a Dutch oven inside.
  8. Score the top of the dough and lower it into the hot Dutch oven using parchment paper.
  9. Cover and bake for 20 minutes, then remove the lid and bake uncovered for another 25 minutes.
  10. Allow the bread to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Ensure your sourdough starter is active and bubbly for the best results. Store bread at room temperature in a paper bag for up to 3 days.
