Description
A delightful breakfast casserole featuring rich cream cheese, plump blueberries, and soft, buttery bread, perfect for brunch or a cozy family breakfast.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf of bread (French or brioche)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Powdered sugar (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cut the bread into cubes and layer half of them at the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese with the blueberries, then spoon this mixture over the first layer of bread cubes.
- Add the remaining bread cubes on top of the cream cheese and blueberry mixture.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread layers.
- Cover with foil and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best flavor.
- Bake for 30 minutes covered, then uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and set.
- Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar.
Notes
Consider drizzling additional maple syrup or serving with fresh berries for garnish. Can be made dairy-free with substitutions.
