Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for topping)
- 4 strips turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and greasing a baking dish.
- Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder in a large mixing bowl.
- Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mix looks like coarse crumbs.
- Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese followed by the buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and onion powder in a separate bowl until well blended.
- Spread half of the biscuit dough evenly into your prepared baking dish.
- Pour the egg mixture over the biscuit layer, then sprinkle the crumbled turkey bacon and remaining cheddar cheese on top.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining biscuit dough over the egg mixture, distributing it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is golden and set.
Notes
For best results, use cold butter and avoid overmixing the dough. You can also make it ahead of time and bake it in the morning.
