Description

A delicious breakfast centerpiece that combines the rich flavors of brioche or challah with a custardy egg mixture, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread (brioche or challah)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar for garnish
  • Fresh berries (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish thoroughly.
  3. Cut the bread into cubes and spread them evenly in the dish.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring every piece is soaked.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  7. The next morning, remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and set.

Notes

Choose a loaf that is a day or two old for the best results. Feel free to add chopped nuts or chocolate chips for extra flavor.
