Description
A delightful and easy-to-make French toast casserole, perfect for family brunches or holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
- 12 slices of bread (use your favorite type)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Butter (for greasing the baking dish)
- Optional toppings: powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh fruit
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.
- Cut your chosen bread into cubes, then spread the cubes evenly in the greased baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until the mixture is well combined and slightly fluffy.
- Pour this egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring every piece is generously soaked.
- Cover the dish with foil and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or for a deeper flavor, refrigerate it overnight.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, removing the foil for the last 10 minutes to allow the casserole to brown perfectly.
- Serve it warm and dress it up with powdered sugar, maple syrup, or fresh fruit for a delightful finishing touch.
Notes
For best results, use day-old bread and allow the casserole to rest before serving.
