Description

A delightful and easy-to-make French toast casserole, perfect for family brunches or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 12 slices of bread (use your favorite type)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter (for greasing the baking dish)
  • Optional toppings: powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh fruit

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Cut your chosen bread into cubes, then spread the cubes evenly in the greased baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until the mixture is well combined and slightly fluffy.
  4. Pour this egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring every piece is generously soaked.
  5. Cover the dish with foil and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or for a deeper flavor, refrigerate it overnight.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, removing the foil for the last 10 minutes to allow the casserole to brown perfectly.
  7. Serve it warm and dress it up with powdered sugar, maple syrup, or fresh fruit for a delightful finishing touch.

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread and allow the casserole to rest before serving.
