Ingredients
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 3 large Eggs
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup Whole Milk
- 1/2 cup Sugar (for Custard)
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch
- 4 large Egg Yolks
- 2 cups Fresh Strawberries
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the cake pans.
- Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
- Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, incorporating each fully before the next.
- Add the vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and milk alternately until combined.
- Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Prepare the custard by whisking together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan.
- Stir in the milk and cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
- Once thick, remove from heat and cool slightly before adding strawberries.
- Layer the custard and strawberries between the cooled cake layers and top with more strawberries.
- Chill the assembled cake before serving.
